First sprint in a LONG time. Only got in on the front and back but had fun and was glad to participate. Heard great activity on both 40m and 20m.

From Steve KG9HM, SKCC #8759

Only had a couple hours to work on 20 meters near the end of the sprint. Tha band seemed to close up as evening approached. Thanks to the folks that slow down for us that are new to this!

From Curt K6BHH, SKCC #3646T

Of my 25 contacts, I was the oldest geezer at 74 and the youngest was 42. Interestng statistic.

From Dave W0YZZ, SKCC #5519T

A Great WES But Where Were The Youngsters. Youngest I Worked Was 39... Lots of us older Guys...maybe you might have bonus' for the grey Hairs or no hairs... oh well i'll See you all next month 73's Dave W0YZZ 5519T

From Thomas MQ0TRN, SKCC #7344T

I was only able to operate for under 2 hours at the end of the event. Conditions were reasonable but far from great, worked 7 stations in US (5 on 20m and 1 on 40m), and 1 in EU (40m). Thanks George N2JNZ for the QSO on 20m!

I was using "MQ0TRN" during this event, the "Q" is a special prefix authorized to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, it does cause a bit of confusion sometimes but is fun to operate with, and I was happy to give a few people a new prefix!

From Geoff KB1USE, SKCC #7038

Best WES i've ever had. Worked some great DX and made people happy as a 14 year old operator.

From Phil KB0ETU, SKCC #4542T

Busy day! Bands were not cooperating at this QTH. And I just didn't have the time for the Sprint. Thanks to W9PV, KE1AF, and K2XS for the contacts. At least I did score something. Hopefully next month will be better, as well as the SKS later this month. C U Then. 72/73, Phil KBØETU

From Edward N7EDK, SKCC #7534

Well not a great WES at all today for me. Being Mother's Day, and family problems, just couldn't get any time on the air hardly today ! And for some reason, lots of QRN on 20 meters today here !

And this was the coming out party for my new KX3(s/n 45) ! It still did good for the few contacts I made at 5 watts ! And next month I'll be in Florida for the June WES. I'll bring the KX3, but don't know how much time I'll get on the air that Sunday !!

Oh well, ya can't win'em all as they say, we'll see what next month brings from the east coast and Florida !! 73...

From Curt WA2JSG, SKCC #3018T

Rig Icom IC-703 5w to an elevated Butternut HF9V vertical using 12v battery pack. English Kent Straight Key.

Hope to see many here in Dayton this coming weekend. Look for your SKCC booth #254 in the North Exhibit Hall.

From Ron W6FPS, SKCC #2126

Conditions were not the greatest at my QTH. Thanks to K4BAI, John and W4CU, Tom I was able to complete a couple of contacts during my limited time on the air. I hope no one got to much QRN (static from your XYL) for sitting in the shack on Mothers Day. Hope to make meny more contacts during the next event. 73, Ron

From Pete W1PNS, SKCC #4853T

Many thanks to all who took party, and a special thanks to Ethan, KB1WMR, for serving as the bonus station, and to Geoffrey, KB1USE for providing another truly young buck for members to contact! See ya'll next month!

With best regards,

From Ron AC2C, SKCC #2748T

Interesting theme. I only worked Ethan on one band.

From CHAS W9SAY, SKCC #1158T

Great WES despite an equipment failure that resulted in a loss of prime on the air time. And I didn't count the QSO with W5ZR when things went dead before we completed our exchange.

Thanks Ethan for pulling my score up in the very last minute of the Sprint!

Once again, thanks to all who participate and especially to those who put all of this together.

From Bill W4CUX, SKCC #5497T

Great Sprint. I mainly worked Saturday night, but lots of good signals. The few times I was on Sunday, bands were kinda quiet. Looking forward to next event.

73, Bill - W4CUX

From JOHN K5ENA, SKCC #3045T

40 and 20 were fairly decent.

From Eldon W0SZV, SKCC #4999T

busy weekend but some time for the sprint. had a good time

From Steven W3SFG, SKCC #9291

This was my first SKCC event - it was a thrill to get my old J-38 out again. I wish I had more time to spend on the air today, but look forward to the next event.

From Tom KA2KGP/3, SKCC #1494C

20 & 40 were good, but 80 was poor here in north central PA this WES with a good turnout. A fun sprint. 73 to all.

From Kurt KJ5WU, SKCC #9037

I really enjoyed my first WES.I'm looking forward to the next one.

From Steve AA5TB, SKCC #110

I only found time to get on for a few minutes but I had fun.

From Carl N5XE, SKCC #6307T

Another great WES. Worked several new SKCC numbers. Short skip was to be had on 20 and 15 meters at times. Many thanks to all who participate in WES. 73 de N5XE

From TOM W4CU, SKCC #2733T

Thanks to all for the contacts. I had a great time as always. vy 73 - Tom

From BERT K6CSL, SKCC #4486

This was my major effort for the weekend, other than trying to find and work 7O6T and 6O0CW. The age theme was really fun.

The oldest operator I worked was John, W1OOO, age 90. The youngest was Allen, AE7AG, age 43. The median age of operators I worked was 63.

From Mike N5YG, SKCC #6304T

Enjoyed the WES with the exception of the time taken to complete the age points (too lenghty). No Ethan in AR but a big Welcome to Ham Radio, and SKCC, is in order. Thanks to all! 73

From JOHN K4BAI, SKCC #3280

FT1000MP, Alpha 78, 1 KW, TH6DXX. Had planned to operate more during the last hour, but a thunderstorm changed those plans. Thanks for all QSOs. Found the exchange of ages interesting, but determining the "age bonus" too confusing and time consuming. I hope we won't have these types of additions to scores in the future. When the contest is over, I'd like to submit the score and get on with life. 73, John, K4BAI.

From Garry VE5SG, SKCC #6154T

I missed the last two WES, so I wanted to get in on this one. It was nice to touch base with some old friends. However conditions were really bad for me. I operated portable from a cabin. The photo shows what I saw from my operating position. Then there were distractions, boat rides, camp fires, etc. I will have to get my priorities right next time!

From ED W1EJ, SKCC #1594T

I aint doin fractions for three contacts! Mothers Day etc limited my time.

From Jim N5JPX, SKCC #8672

Worked around Mother's Day so time at the key was limited. Put the new Yaesu FT-817ND on the air to see how well it would do. Still got some things to learn about the IF Shift and noise blanker but I was very pleased to see how effective 5 watts was. Thanks to all who worked with my 559 signal for the contacts. CU next month.

73,

Jim

Happy Mothers Day!

From John K8JD, SKCC #1395T

I wkd the sprint from01:30 to 04:30 last night and 14:43 to 15:00 today, bands worked were 80, 40 and 20M.

The cat slept through most of the event.

It took another 45 minutes to get the age bonus figured out.

From RICH W4RQ, SKCC #8699T

I think this WES was a lot of fun. Of Couerse Mother's Day took priority, but there seemed to be good participation

From John VK4TJ, SKCC #4474T

Stunning late night conditions on 20 mtrs, but, as usual, not many takers.

From Jim K5BZH, SKCC #447T

Didn't get to spend much time this weekend. Made one contact with N5XE in Oklahoma, short skip on 15 meters. My power level was 4 watts.

From ED W7GVE, SKCC #729T

The band was poor except for the last 3 hours--- Mothers Day thinned the crowd but even a below average WES is a fun event. We are getting older, but aging gracefully.. Tom W4CU was the strongest on the band... 73 ED

From Scott KB0KFX, SKCC #7429

I forgot it was WES and heard the CQ on the air. The age thing threw me for a loop, but I think it was a nice addition once I figured out what was going on. Easy bonus to calculate and fun to see the statistics real time.

From John G0RDO, SKCC #2133T

Only got on air for a while. Conditions seemed to be better later in the WES and 20m as usuaul was OK from here. Did work Walt LW3EX on 10m for extra fun ! I gave up trying to figure out the bonus age scoring, so just submitting the basic score. Morse key used was a big Marconi 365A marine key, ex RMS Strathmore c1930's.

73 John

From Stefano IZ3NVR, SKCC #5631

Thanks to F5DE Bernard, and F6HKA Bert for the patience of pulling out my very low signal on 40m. Hope my low age (20 years old) would have allowed them to gain some more point from this difficult QSO :))

See ya...

Planting the garden took precidence this weekend, but I got a few in Saturday night and very early Sunday morning. 09:00 may have been too early as not many of you were around.

From Werner N8BB, SKCC #5433T

Had time for a few contacts, my youngest son from Arizona was visiting and not allot of time to play. Thanks for the fun and see you all next event.

From Bernard F5DE, SKCC #6247T

What a WES ! What a WES !

After starting with a very big noise on all bands, it was sooo difficult to get only 5 QSO in the morning and the afternoon.

But I did not decide to stop, and after watching a good movie on TV, I came back to the shack for the last three and a half hours of the event.

Propagation was a bit better and noise not so high, then 21 more stations were logged, with some good surprises, one more time VK4TJ on 20 m, IZ3NVR/QRPp on 40 m (20 years old, well done Stefano !) MQ0TRN for a new prefix, and the last but not least, KA3LOC/QRP in Kansas for my 50th SKCC USA State allowing me to ask now for the SKCC WAS !

Thank you very much to all of you, OM and YB friends.

I was so happy not to get discouraged, this event is really a pleasure for fingers and brain.

What a WES ! What a WES !

My three used keys were a Vibroplex Original for slow speed, a German Baumuster T1 hand key for very slow speed and my good old Lionel J-36 bug for medium speed.

I hope to be there again next month for my 30th participation in WES since my January 2010 membership.

73 to all from France !

From Doug N3PDT, SKCC #6861T

Well, that was a fun WES! Worked 15m, 20m, and 40m. Was neat to get more than one DX station for a change. Thanks John, Walt, and Harold. Worked Ed, W7GVE on three bands, and snagged 3 fellow Missouri Outlaws - Thank you Mark KI0I, Mitch WD0ECO and my neighbor Larry K0LVW. Also got to work Ethan on one band.

I really enjoyed the theme and the complex bonus system. Fun idea!

Thanks to all I worked, and my apologies to those I couldn't pull out.

An interesting WES theme. Almost snagged Geoff, WB1USE, but fell victim to QSB. Tnx to all who contacted me and especially tnx to the organizers who make the SKCC possible. 73,

From FRED KB0LF, SKCC #6302T

Enjoyed the theme. Did not get to op very much, but 20 and 40 mtrs had good signals Sat evening. Thanks to all, GL. Fred

From Dave W3NP, SKCC #3182T

Since I just had major lower back surgery on Monday morning and was not supposed to sit for more than 20 minutes at at time, I had to work a few stations, go outside and walk, then come back in work a few more. Since I couldn't go to church, I actually had about as much op time as usual. The bands went from excellent to poor and back - just up and down. 20 was probably the best overall. 40 was watery and weak most of Sat eve and totally dead Sun afternoon, but came alive in the last few hours of the event. I did have a few QSO's on 15 and 10 meters. I did not hear one station on 80 Sat eve despite the static level being tolerable.

Rig for the event was the recently neglected Ten Tec Omni 7 at 5 watts. The main key was my vintage 1915 Vibroplex for the entire event with just a few stints on the Nye Master key for slower ops and when my report was 329 or thereabouts - I find a straight key with heavy dots make it through better when you are down in the noise. I thought the age thing was a great idea and things like that separate our fun operating events even further from the frenzied, boring, and robot like "contests". I never participate in a contest, but I love the SKCC events. Maybe we could do "years as a ham" or "year licensed" sometime. Our average age seems to be not far from the Vietnam Veterans of America average of which I am a member - We ARE getting old!! Youngest I worked was 36 and oldest was 75, with the majority in the late 50's to mid/late 60's.

Other than my post-surgical pain - it was a FUN WES. 73 de WV

Well I got a good start on my YB award. Kieth (WI0S), I got all of your info, but then you disappeared, so I didn't count that as a QSO. Thanks to all. Hope to see some of you in Dayton. 73, Art

From Russ K0LUW, SKCC #1702T

I could only operate for around 6 hrs but had a great time. The bands appeared to be in poor shape Sunday morning but got a little better after lunch. Attached is my everyday use key.

Enjoy this Sprint even though limited time again. Mothers are very important!! Looks like everyone read the rules. I just hope my calculations are correct. Thanks to all that worked me and 73.

From Brian K7TKT, SKCC #6695C

I set the 20m portable hex beam up in the back yard and worked the WES from there. I operaterd from the bottom of the pole so I could reach it to rotate the beam with my "armstrong" rotor. I got in about 4 hours Saturday night. Thanks for all of the contacts. 73, Brian

From Jerry K9PMV, SKCC #1438T

A fun event as always. Logging the participant's ages is interesting. I sure gives a demographic of our hobby. At age 68, I see I am in the right group! Anyhow, see you at Dayton! 73 to all.

From Joe K4NVJ, SKCC #393T

K2/K3 running 5 watts to dipole up 30 ft. Worked 1 hour Saturday evening, 1 hour Sunday morning and 2+ hours Sunday afternoon.

From Dave NE5DL, SKCC #5081T

Worked QRO this month because condx seemed so bad, but had fun. Thought the sprint theme added a nice twist. Oldest worked was Chas W9SAY aged 75(same as me), and the youngest was Steven KB9DFE aged 36. So no real younguns.

From Joe W1HFF, SKCC #6309

Not much time because of mother''s day. Conditions were pretty bad here also. Managed only a few QSOs but enjoyed it anyway, as always.

From Bill N0UMP, SKCC #659T

Mother's Day and poor band condx. Still had a good time. Tnx to all...73 Bill

From Slim WA0BGV, SKCC #5465T

WOW! What a bunch of old "fogies"! And me, one of the older ones. Kinda depressing knowing that the older you are the less you are worth.

I only worked two operators older than I, and only two the same age.

It made me want to take advantage of the nice day and get some yardwork done before I get another foot in the grave. Hi Hi

Didn't spend as much time in this effort for various reasons. Still, it was fun.

From Gil NG7IL, SKCC #7226T

Been off the air for a while moving to a new QTH. It was nice to get back on the air and work this sprint. I thought I forgot how to send and receive. New call for this spring also NG7IL previous KF7KPL. Thanks for all the contacts and fun. 73 de Gil NG7IL

Mothers' Day in NY with Mom and back here in MA with the XYL of my dreams....anybody figured how to work mobile cw while driving alone? (It really isn't the same as texting is it? HI!) Needless to say a whopping 2 QSO while the grill was heating up is my lowest score ever!

From Allen KA5TJS, SKCC #5172T

Great WES again. It was hot on 20 mtrs Saturday night but slow on 40 mtrs Sunday morning. Probably due to Mothers Day I guess. Got a lot for a QRP try and thanks for those who heard my CQ. I got two Canadians if you can believe that. Had a lot of fun with the 746Pro at 4 watts.

This was fun and it was nice to be able to participate again, even though conditions on Sunday were not very good. Interesting that most of the participants appear to be Tribunes. Maybe it's time to change the bonus points? I was also surprised how old most of us are! Yikes!

From mark KI0I/P, SKCC #6585T

Sat. nite for radio at the farm,Sun. for my Mother.Had a lot of fun on the battery in the woods. Ran a ts450s and speed-x model 500,acer laptop and K2RFP Sprintlog. Antenna 80m delta loop at ~25ft. Thanks all 73,Mark KI0I

From Allen AE7TG, SKCC #6008T

A fun WES - Saturday condx in WA were pretty good - Sunday not so much, and had Mother's Day plans with the family anyway. Still had a great time but was sorry Ethan couldn't hear me when I called him, maybe next time! Thanks for all the Q's and hope to see you all next month.

From Peter AK3X, SKCC #7217T

In addition to the usual distractions, Mother's Day pretty much wiped out Sunday activity. I concentrated on 20M on Saturday evening, and picked up a few more on Sunday afternoon. Rigs were DSW-20 and DSW-40, both at 3 watts. Had a good time as usual and even got a couple of new numbers towards Tx3. Every time I turned on the 20M rig, W4CU was booming into MD! 73/72 til next month.

From RON N8KZH, SKCC #6593T

Another fun WES. Ran QRP again at 5 watts. FT897d and my old friend the Junker.Tnx to all who worked me. Best 72,and see you all next sprint. Ron

I did not notice the WES was on until I heard some folks calling so I proceeded to work a few only checking the theme afterwords... I could have handed out a LOT of bonus points; I'm only 25! Oops! Made all contacts with my new (to me) Century 21 and EF Johnson bug.

great rig for QRP so far. Had fun. Hope my math was

ok.

From Jim ND9M, SKCC #8233

As with many others, my first WES was limited by Mother's Day which is always a winner anyway. O'wise, I operated mobile but sitting in a parking lot since I'm away from my home QTH. Even better was that the contacts made during WES put me over the top for my Centurion; on to the Big "T"!

From Rick N5RB, SKCC #8994

Was my first WES. Had fun, only had an hour to spend. And Jerry thought I didn't have a straight key <grin>

From Keith WD8AFB, SKCC #7196T

Wish I had more time to be on the air. Always enjoy CW with you guys!

From Mike W7MWF, SKCC #8683

This was my first WES. Thanks to everyone who helped me collect new numbers.

From Wayne KF7QGA, SKCC #8037

I did not keep complete logs, so filled in zero or one for the numbers I don't have.

From Bob VE3AKV, SKCC #5204T

Hey there...I only had about an hour to play radio but the 40m band was good.

From Bill KL7IDA, SKCC #2713C

From Jim N3ADF, SKCC #6459T

Was only able to work the WES for 2 hours but had great fun.

From Ted K4UFT, SKCC #4289T

Got one short QSO to Florida on 10M but that's all I heard on 10. One on 20 and two on 40.

Hopefully the summer E-skip season will start in a few weeks and we'll see some activity on 10 and 6.
